Happy December everybody!
So how's Christmas going for you all? I must say I'm enjoying every second. I had a busy few weeks on the build up - as we all did. So I'm really appreciating the time off and the silence from my phone! Isn't it amazing how much phones computers and other constants like facebook and twitter can take up such a massive amount of time and energy? Both my children were up at 5.30am on Christmas morning which isn't too bad in the greater scheme of things! We all got bikes this year - including me! Yes me who is so lazy I'd have someone carry me to the car if I could get away with it. Well - New Year new me. Ah hem. That's the plan at least. I got one of those carriers that I can attach to the back of the car too, so we can go to parks and places with vast cycling style expanses. My bike is a sea green colour and I love it (obviously the functionality comes second to the colour and look of the thing). The kids both got mountain bike type jobbies which look very impressive and grown up. There's an amazing facility close to our home with field after field surrounded by tracks for running or cycling so that's the first port of call. I'm actually looking forward to wobbling my way around as I re-equate myself with cycling. I'll be able to let you know if that age old phrase of 'just like riding a bike' is actually true. It must be fifteen years since I've sat on a bike so I'll be sure to report whether or not I manage to sail off in one direction or (as I sneakily suspect) I veer horribly into a pile of brambles.
We're heading off en famille to a castle in Ireland to ring in the New Year. I've been looking forward to it for months! We did the same thing last year and it was simply magical. Coupled with the fact that there's no cooking cleaning or washing of clothes to be done I'm on to a winner already!
I just need to have a little rant if you don't mind. It'll only take a second... You know the way towns are 'twinned' with other towns around the world? It's a cultural exercise so we can all connect with one another. It's a lovely idea. My problem is that I think the clothes in our house are twinned with some sort of dirty laundry morphing planet. Yesterday I did four full washes, dried them and even ironed and put them away. Yes the clothes are all clean and sorted now, but for crying out loud what's the story? How can four people create so many dirty items? The machine goes on at least twice every single day. I took my eye off the ball on Christmas day - which I know was very lax of me, and suddenly there was a near infestation of dirty clothes. Someone please invent disposable clothes. I'll be your first customer.
Moving on to mAs you can see from the pic above the paper back version of The Pink Ladies Club is just about to hit the shops! I love the new cover! It looks glossy and stunning in real life so as usual I'm urging you all to go out and buy as many copies as you can carry! Shortlisted for the Bord Gais Irish Book awards this is a novel that I'm very proud of. I hope you'll all enjoy it, I've had some wonderful letters and emails from people who have read it and loved it, so I hope many more of you will give it a shot.
I'm off to make a cup of coffee. I got some of the flavoured coffee shots for my Nespresso machine for Christmas and they're divine!
Wishing you all a continued relaxing and lovely Christmas and a wonderfully healthy happy New Year for 2012.
Thank you all for the amazing support you've shown me during the past year. I couldn't have come through the long and often tough struggle without you all. Your words of encouragement and positivity meant so much to me.
Love and light

Hi Emma, its been a few months since Ive read your diary, so firstly I am beyond thrilled that you are in remission.... Yaaaaaaaaay!!! Secondly, Happy New Year & congrats on new book (which I am getting as bday present this month) I read "Talk to the head scarf" this time last year , bald from chemo & post oophorectomy & salping. surgery. I flew home from NY after Xmas for Tlc from Mammy & family, & since Ive read the book , you are on my mind often, & I'm always in awe of your determination & fantastic sense of humor.
I also, have always wished for disposable clothes, as my laundry pile NEVER diminishes EVER!!!
Also my 3 sisters in Galway all tested NEG for BRCA1, just got that great news before Xmas! It was the best news ever! A miracle!
Best wishes to you, looking forward to reading your next diary entry
