Hello every body!
How are we all doing? It's almost Easter! St Chocolate Day! I can't wait. I've been testing some chocolate on all of our behalves and suffice it to say, I can't give a definitive result yet. Will keep 'testing' and let you know soon... So March is over and done with. St Patrick's day this year astonished me. In Bray my home town, it wasn't hail stoning. That must be a first?! Usually it's essential that all the children both taking part and spectating should be cold soaked and still eating ice cream. This year it was just eating ice cream without the drenching showers. I've been carrying on with my crusade against cancer. I've a few infected nodes on both sides of my neck right now. Not fabulous but still doable, so I'm happy. I'm still on the chemotherapy tablets, which are so much less invasive than the usual IV stuff. I did experience the main side effect which is a foot and hand reaction. I know it sounds like something that should only happen to people from a hundred years ago... Basically I had chemical burns on the soles of my feet. In other words my feet looked like I'd been walking on hot coals but the 'cool wet grass' theory of altering one's mind to avoid injury didn't quite work. I did a lot of wincing and having to lather my feet in moisturizer. For the record if anyone else is having similar fun, I tried everything and the only one that worked for me was bog standard Silcocks Base. I came off the tablets for a few days, had a stomach flu (just for a bit of extra excitement - not my finest moment in life) and now I'm back on the drugs. All is less hobbly and burnt, and I am hoping that the cancer is being slain. I have just finished the edit on my next novel 'The Pink Ladies Club' which is out in June! I'm so excited about having another book on the shelves and still can't quite believe this is happening to me! I'm still like a rabbit in the head lights with regards to my books. I'm so humbled and honoured to be a published author. It's a dream come true. I need to get something off my chest and I hope you don't mind me venting to you all... I go through seriously obsessive stages with music. I've been like this since I first owned a walkman in the 80's. I hear a song and fall in love with it, and then I have to listen to it over and over again. I have tapes in old shoe boxes with a single song recorded repeatedly for the entire thing! Tapes are obviously a thing of the past and now my obsessive behaviour can be facilitated in so many ways, CD, i-tunes, laptop, desk top, i-phone - the list is endless. My current OCD with music involves two songs. The first one is on Adele's album 21. If you don't own it, treat yourself - go on - you're worth it. It's all fantastic but my song of obsession is the live version of Someone Like You.... I just can't get enough of it. The second CD is Bruno Mars Doo-wops & hooligans. I adore Grenade but have an uncontrolled compulsion to listen to Talking to the Moon on repeat. Even Tom the cat is glowering at me for playing that song so much. I know it's my job, in fact my duty to be uncool in my children's opinion, but they are now starting to rock back and forth in the car to block out the words of Someone Like You and Talking to the Moon. I'm hoping that by sharing the details of this abuse, it might make me stop. I attended a fantastic evening last Thursday 31st May at Eason's bookshop in O'Connell Street. It was a celebration of Women's Fiction. Patricia Scanlan spoke and so did Maria from Eason. I met loads of wonderful and inspirational authors and readers at the meet and greet session afterwards. It was amazing to put faces to the books! So many authors I've grown up reading were there along with newer talent. I thought it was a fantastic evening and I was so proud to be invited. I hope you're all used to the change in hour by now. It took me quite a few days although I'm so unbelievably impressed that my computer, laptop and phone (all apple products) knew the hour had changed and adjusted themselves automatically!! I know that's probably standard with most technology now but I'm easily amused! Hope you are all well and enjoying the stretch in the evenings - that phrase always makes me envisage the daylight doing yoga type exercise... OK I'll stop sharing my insane thoughts with you all in case I get locked up. Have a happy April and as of today (5th) there are only 19 sleeps until the Easter Bunny comes... CHOCOLATE!!! Love and light Emma x
