Hi There,
Hope this finds you all well. We are all reaching the cranky in the morning and 'let's have a duvet day' stage in our house. Even Tom the cat has hit a brick wall with the early mornings. I had to show you a picture of his solution to it all. When I grow up, I'm going to be a cat. He has it all sussed as you can see from the photo!
I've had a busy month. I have a new book coming out in January. It's my memoir and is being published by the lovely people at Hachette. It's called 'Talk to the Headscarf' and I'm so excited about it. I had a very glam photo shoot for the front cover which went so well - once I managed to actually get there. I am utterly mortified as I even type this - I was 45 minutes late. I don't do late. I left home in plenty of time and yet it took me three times the amount of time necessary to actually pitch up at the studio. Emily Quinn, photographer extraordinaire eventually had to take the phone and hang out a top window of the studio building and guide me through the streets of Harold Cross in Dublin. I have the sense of direction of a brain damaged slug and my sat nav is probably worse. I will never trust that woman in the dash board ever again. She obviously thought I was going to a different Harold's Cross... Anyway, my editor Ciara and Emily the photographer were kind and sweet and reassured me that I am not the only person to get lost. I still felt like such a twit. Hate that. The result, once I'd stopped having palpitations and sweating was a fun and giggly afternoon. Well, Ciara and I had a great time and poor Emily worked like a Trojan. I can't wait to show you all the cover when I get it. While I'm on books - 2011 is going to be so busy. I've 'Talk to the Head Scarf' coming out in January, the paper back of 'Miss Conceived' in February and my next novel, 'The Pink Ladies Club' out in June! So it's all go!
The down side of things is that the cancer is currently having another go. Yes, there are even more nodes, behind my ear, just up from the last ones. My medical team donned their capes and underpants on the outside of their trousers once more and I had more radiation just yesterday.
I'm typing this from my sick bed. I feel tired and a bit wobbly, but the wonderful thing about my job is that I still sound and look the same on paper! Gotta love that. As I pondered this morning, I tried to think of any other job that I could continue to enjoy and conduct during and through my current treatment. No other job would allow me to work in bed - bar being a hooker, but quite frankly I don't have the energy for that at the moment. So that wouldn't be too lucrative right now either!
I know I will feel better in a few days and my chemotherapy is ongoing, so I am in the best hands with the best drugs. I will continue to fight and type as I go!
Feeling I ought to, I indulged in a little retail therapy yesterday in between my scan and radiation therapy. Well, I had time to kill, so it would've been rude not to buy some thing. I met my lovely friend Sarah for lunch and bought my Winter boots. I've gone for the biker boots look this year. They'll join the UGGS I purchased a few weeks ago. I adore the UGGS but am still wary that I look a bit too much like some thing from Build-a-Bear. Should it really be legal to wear UGG boots when you're not a teenager or in your twenty's? The biker boots I can handle.
I am so sad that I have to miss The Pink Rose Ball tomorrow night (October 9th) in Kildare, but unfortunately I don't have the energy. That's the really annoying thing with cancer. The treatment sometimes means having to take a step back. But I will be there next year with gusto. I hope everyone going has a brilliant night. This is a great cause by the way and any donations would be gratefully accepted. Check out www.pinkroseball.com if you can spare even a couple of euro. All money goes to the hospice and Marie Keating foundation.
As we are now into October, it's obviously breast cancer awareness month, so all you ladies out there, look after yourselves. I'm living proof that by staying on top of things and catching lumps and bumps as early as you can saves lives. Buy a pink ribbon and wear it with pride!
I'll talk to you all again soon and hope you are all as happy as my cat Tom, who by the way is lying stretched out beside me on the bed, purring so loudly I fear he might explode. He hasn't a care in the world, let's all take a leaf from his book!
Bye for now,
Love
Emma x
